Black HerStory Month Day 13

“I am optimistic, and maybe it’s because I’m one of those millennials that feels like we can change the world, because I absolutely believe that we can.” -Symone Sanders

Humble Beginnings: Queen Symone was born December 10th 1989 (SAGITTARIUS IN THE HOUUSSSEEE…I’m a Libra by the way buuttt, ya know)!!! She hails from ‘The Gateway to the West” Omaha Nebraska! Symone’s father, Daniel Sanders, is retired from U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and her mother Terri Sanders, was, in a previous life, the publisher for the Omaha Star as well as an executive director for The Great Plains Black History Museum. Growing up, Symone aspired to host her own television show, you could find her many days with a makeshift microphone in her hand commentating on the “latest” news! As a teen this Queen worked as a cashier in local Black-owned restaurant! Madison Feller wrote that Symone said she knew she needed to get good grades because she hated to mop!!

“I am motivated by the simple fact that someone fought, marched, cried, prayed and spoke up so that one day I would be able to do the same for the next generation. I also know that when I show up — whether it’s on tv, to a meeting or at my fellowship at Harvard — no one is going to bring the same perspective. So it’s my duty to show up as my authentic self every single time.” -Symone Sanders

Early Career: Symone catapulted into success by becoming apart of the Democratic Party! At just 25 years old she became the national press secretary for, then, presidential candidate Bernie Sanders. If that ain’t #BlackGirlMagic I don’t know what is. This dynamic achievement earned her a spot on Fusion Magazine’s 30 women under 30 Who Would Shape the 2016 Election! After leaving the Bernie Sanders campaign, Symone transitioned to CNN where she worked as commentator before moving on to become the SENIOR ADVISOR for now, President Joseph Biden’s campaign.

Today: Symone, it seems, is NOT slowing down! She has now been appointed the Chief Spokeswoman for Another Queen, who we will also be spotlighting this month, Vice President, Kamala Harris! You go girl!! Black women have arrived and we are here to stay!! Sanders, in a most classy and elegant way, let the world know just that in a tweet she posted on November 29, 2020 at 5:14pm

“Ready to serve accurately describes how I feel. Thank you Madam Vice President @KamalaHarris for entrusting me with this charge. It has been the honor of my life to work for @JoeBiden & I am elated to have the opportunity to continue to that work in the PEOPLE'S HOUSE.”

Thank you Miss Sanders for being a light for other young girls of color who may have doubts in their abilities, and their worth! Thank you for showing us that it is ok to speak our minds and we will STILL be respected for it! I appreciate you for giving me something to believe in!
