Black HerStory Month Day 8
It’s week two and Boom 💥…
That comment was made by the legendary Della Reese, who played a Madame of Sugar’s brothel, as she was bragging on one her girls hot boxes in the 1989 Comedy “Harlem Nights”. Good Classic Black Film if you have not checked it out, add it to your list. Now, I have no idea how Miss Sunshine worked out her situation to be so precious, however I know one Queen that has created not one, not two, but a whole slew of products to ease the lives and vagina’s of women all over the world. Today I would like to introduce you to the Queen of clean lady parts Ms. Bea Dixon!! Girl you a blessing!!!
How It Started: After an eight month long process of battling Bacterial Vaginosis (BV), which included a search for every possible solution from antibiotics to garlic to other natural remedies, Queen Bea had a dream-Literally a dream. In this dream her grandmother gave her a piece of paper that would change her life. Bea is quoted saying “ She told me to look at the paper and remember what was on it because I needed to make it when I woke up.” The next morning when she woke up, Bea wrote down the ingredients, water, coconut oil, apple cider vinegar, and lavender. These natural ingredients were the foundation of her eventual business and the cure for her BV battle! And just like that, The Honey Pot was born! The Honey Pot Co, is a plant-powered feminine care company. They use natural products to develop healthy washes, wipes, clean cotton tampons, herb-infused pads, and many other amazing feminine hygiene products! In her former life Queen Bea was a pharmacy technician, this background equipped her with the tools necessary to formulate her original recipe! Once properly crafted, The Queen began sharing this formula with her friends, giving it to any woman that would take it! Although her original packaging was a bit unconventional, at times being a pickle jar or a spray bottle, she managed to attend a Bronner Brothers hair show event in Atlanta GA and sell 600 bottles over a weekend! #BossLadyMoves
How It’s Going: If you remember back in February, Queen Bea faced heavy backlash on social media for a Target ad that, when originally envisioned, would be a viral moment for Honey Pot! The ad featured Ms. Bea narrating her journey to Honey Pot and how Target gave her the opportunity of a lifetime by taking a chance on her! She continued on by sharing how she hoped her story would inspire others…
“The reason why it's so important for Honey Pot to do well is so the next Black girl that comes up with a great idea -- she can have a better opportunity,"
Instead she was hit with negative reviews, hate mail, hate speech, calls for boycott, etc. from white people who saw her ad as “offensive”.. Give me a break! Here is where it gets better! Target, being as fantastic as they are, stood by the ad, and kept the line!!!! You GO Target!!! Queen Bea, is a strong woman and did not let pettiness get her down.
“We're in a weird political time, I didn't take it (the backlash) personally. For me, it's important that young girls, women and women of color see that achieving something like this is possible."
In an interview with Aspiring CO. Bea shared some information about overcoming during the early days of the business,
“I fail every day. I mean, it's hard for me to think of one, there are things that you learn every day. I think one that I learned the most from is we didn't understand in the beginning we didn't necessarily understand our supply chain and we had some issues that happened with our wipes. We found the money, we found the capital and the investors eventually, and that was just a part of our story. But you know, not having constant access to capital when you're in the consumer-packaged goods space and not understanding your supply chain is a recipe for disaster. We went through that pretty hard. You know it caused a massive amount of stress. But it was good for us because if you fuck up really bad, then you don't want to go back to that. You don't want to repeat that again so you do whatever you have to do to not repeat it. I think it was good for us. It was just, it was just tough, you know”
Honey Pot Company launched in 2014 and its products are now sold in Target, Walmart, Whole Foods, Amazon and other retailers. Beatrice saw a need, made a plan, executed and has now joined Madame CJ Walker and other Black female millionaire entrepreneurs. Queen Beatrice Dixon is a leader in diverse and chemical free health care products. The Atlanta-based CEO and founder has a used her experiences, inquisitive nature, and determination to make be her grandmother’s dream come true-in EVERY sense of the saying!!
"Learn how to die. We're all going to leave this place, or our body will, so it's important for me to be extremely present and to live out my dreams right now."
Where to Find More: Ms. Bea has given the word vagina new life in more ways than one! She took her own personal issues and developed a concept to help women all over the world! YOU GO GIRL!! if you would like to learn more about Ms. Bea and her amazing line of natural feminine care products click here. Ms. Dixon believes, and I agree, that the word vagina should not be viewed as a “dirty” word! The vagina is something that is a part of the woman’s body! Queen Bea, in my opinion, has given it new life with Honey Pot!
