Savannah Tings!
Hey guys, AND BOOM, It's day 5 of my Savannah Trip😁. I got up early again, by the grace of the good lord, and saw the sunrise. Just like yesterday, it was a gorgeous view. However, today was a little strange. While walking down the pier, at 6 in the morning, mind you, I could see a person was already there sitting on the bench. I’m not going to lie; I was bummed because I couldn’t recall if there was a second bench.
Nevertheless, as I got closer, it appeared the person was an old lady. However, when I finally made it to the end of the pier, it turned out to be this Indian guy. That threw me for a loop when what I thought was an old lady turned out to be a young Indian guy 🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️perception, I tells ya’. We exchanged pleasantries, and I went to sit down on the bench I saw on the opposite side.
We sat in silence, which was much appreciated because all I wanted to do was watch the sunrise in peace. However, that peace was smashed to bits and replaced with anxiety and fear when he asked me if I had family watching the sunrise too.😳😳 Of course, that set me on high alert, like who asks that when it's just the two of us out here, it’s still dark outside, and we're at the end of a pier. 😰😰I hate my honesty sometimes. When he asked me that, my dumbass said, "No, it's just me🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️" what is wrong with me!! After that question and my horrible honesty, I immediately got my knife ready.🔪🔪 I had purchased a switchblade from the store yesterday and have never been more pleased with making a purchase, especially now. So I had my hand on my switchblade when he asked me if I had a big family. This time I said “YES,” learned from my previous mistake. After that question, he began talking to me about birds and how they can be domesticated like cats and dogs. Which is something that I did not know and thought it was exciting. He then talked about how the sky isn't blue and how it's the reflection of light on the water (which I already knew that part, but I listened anyway).
These things are interesting facts, and I get some people do want someone to talk to, and I am willing to listen, but he just started the conversation all WRONG!!. After that, he said he would be leaving, and it was nice to talk with me, even though I didn't do much talking🤨🤨. Well DUH!! First off, I’m not a big talker anyway, especially in the morning, and when you start a conversation as you did, nobody would want to talk with you!! He left the pier, and I was finally able to unclench and finish watching the sunrise. 🥴🥴 Quick side note, before leaving for Savannah, my sister told me to download the app Life 360. It lets you know where the people in your group/family are located and when they get back home. It also has a panic button that you hold until you feel safe again. When I told her about the incident with the Indian guy, she was ready to kill me because I didn't use the panic button 😂😂😂. I told her that I had my knife on me and I would wait to see where the situation would go 😂😂 She facepalmed!
After that anxiety-filled experience, I left the pier and went to get some breakfast at a place called Maple Street Biscuit. There I had The Five and Dime, a chicken, bacon, egg & cheese biscuit with sausage gravy. IT WAS DELICIOUS!!! However, I will say the sausage gravy was a little too much. So I ended up scrapping the gravy off and eating the biscuit, but it still was amazing!!. After that, I walked around City Market and decided to go Museum viewing and started at the Telfair Museum. It was pretty cool seeing the antiquated statues and sculptures. Even if some of them were just copies, it was cool to see. If you buy the combo ticket (which I did), you can visit all three museums (Telfair, Jepson, & The Owens Thomas House). From there, I headed over to the Jepson Museum, which is more of a modern art museum. I don't understand contemporary art, but that's just me. I have always liked things that take me back in time.
When I left Jepson, I headed over to the Owens Thomas House & Slave quarters built in 1819. The house itself still stands as it did all those years ago. Of course, they have made some changes so people could view the house, but overall the house was the same. When I saw the slave quarters, I wanted to cry, the overwhelming feeling that I got just being in there. In a place where my ancestors stood and lived their daily lives in oppression was just surreal. It made me think that we, as African Americans/Black people, have come so far, but we still have so far to go. We need to stand together and be better for ourselves as well as our future generations. Oh!! On my way to the Owens Thomas House, I found an honest-to-gosh comic book/manga store. EEEEEEE…...😁😁😁. It was small, but still super cool!! I saw this Captain American figurine that I wanted until I saw the price. It was $300!! NEXT!!
After leaving the Owens Thomas House, I wanted to see the First African Baptist Church, but unfortunately, they were closed due to Rona, so I kept it moving. I walked around City market some more and ended up having lunch at this Mexican place called Jalapenos. I got some enchiladas, DELICIOUS!!! After lunch, I was walking around, and I wandered into this store called Bluemercury. Smells AMAZING; with all of the perfumes and cosmetics, it looks like an upscale ULTA, and that is saying something considering, to me, UTLA is pretty exclusive as it is. Even still, I walked around to check out what they had and came across this perfume. IT SMELLED WONDERFUL!! 😊😊When I looked at the price, I went 😳😳 and promptly put it down. However, that did not stop me from basking in the scent. So I left and went back to my car and decided what to do next, but that perfume plagued my senses. I shouldn't have sprayed it on myself.🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️ Long story short, I caved and ended up going back to buy it. BEST DECISION EVER!! After my bout of weakness, I headed back to the Airbnb and ended my night eating the damn good ramen that I had leftover from yesterday and thus completed day 5 of my adventure.
Thanks for joining me for day 5, and be sure to stay tuned for the adventures to come!! So until next time friends, “ Doth Mother know you weareth her drapes?” - Tony Stark Avengers, Lady Dee, OUT. ✌🏾
