What’s A Candytopia?

Way up high in the Sugarland sky is a little slice of heaven and a chocolate-filled pie. Or something like that! HEY peeps! Happy Monday to you! I gotta tell you about my weekend! There’s this place, so full of wonder and magical bliss, and just as sweet as can be, lol! NOT!

Well, the last part is true! Have you heard of Candytopia? Yep, I hadn’t either until my sister said, “Hey, you wanna go to Candytopia.” Let me tell you now, whatever preconceived notions you have in your head, DUMP THEM, and DO IT NOW! Because if you have never been, it; ’s nothing, and I mean NOTHING like you think you imagine it to maybe possibly be!

I know what you are thinking, “Damn Jazz, that’s one hell of a selling point” *buffs nails* yep, I know! But seriously, if you look at it for what it is, it’s a pretty cool place. My sister and our friends went to the one in Atlanta, headed to the one in Philadelphia next, and let me just back up a bit. So, when my sister asked me to go with her, I was super excited because I’m about to go ham in this place! I had visions of Willy Wonka, Candyland, Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, Oompa Loompas, candy fountains…yep all-lat. So my Four-year-old self came out and was like, “yeah, let’s do it” I went online and reserved my ticket, which was $28, and in my mind, that’s a super awesome price for an area full of sweet wonder! RIGHT?

We all pile in the car and make our way there! The entire drive, we are talking about what we will get, how excited we are all everything! We arrive…dun dun dunnnnnnnnnnnn, and we thought we were in the wrong place. We get to a parking lot with a Kroger on one side and shopping spots on the other, so we sit a minute and look around and see the sign; yep, we are here! We head to the Candytopia storefront, get in line and wait for our show at 2:45. The super dope door attendant let us in a little earlier-Shout out to you, dude-you a real one! We get in, and it looks cool; there is a giant candy bucket to the right for all! When it’s our turn, we were corralled into a room that looks like a time machine or maybe a space inspired by Cat-in-the-Hat.

A man’s voice roars over the speaker in a whimsical tone, to do what I assume was explain impossible to hear instructions lol! At that moment, a clock wheel of chocolate descends from the ceiling, and the bees attack lol! after the swarm dispersed, I was selected as the one to brace the crowds to get to the wheel to get my friends some, lucky me! We then move to the next room, and at this point, we were free to roam at will. This was when my hopes and dreams shifted perspective. I quickly realized that this isn’t going to be anything like Candyland, Willy Wonka, or Charlie, and I’m certainly not going to get a picture with any awesome Oompa Loompas or Candy Minions!

It ended up being, in my opinion, more like a maze than a utopia of sweets! NOW, even with that massive letdown, I had a pretty good time once I reframed my perspective. We stopped to “smell the flowers,” We saw an art gallery of celebrities made entirely of various types of candies. They even had The Great Sphinx of Giza made entirely of gummy bears!! We then made our way through Aqudica, where we saw more cool sculptures of candied creatures. So, yall know those cool pics where people seem to be standing on the ceiling?? YEP saw that! We went through an alley of mirrors and made it to the jungle!! I took a sweet pic in a strawberry, and then we got popped with confetti!! This was probably my favorite room! Once we were blown off, we squeezed through what can only be described as a canal of ballons and made it to the marshmallow pit! We weren’t so keen on that one, and we proceed to exit into the gift shop. After we dropped an insane amount of paychecks on some cool merch, we re-convened to discuss our overall experience, lol!

We all agreed that the experience was fun for what it was, but the name is misleading. We also felt like the tickets were a bit overpriced for the experience. Once we squashed our gripes, we needed to find food, and FAST! SLUTTY VEGAN, here we come! BUUTTTTT we were on a time crunch, so we had to settle for a place called The Vortex. We were reluctant when as we were walking in, a group of guys walked by and said, “That place cap” .

This is when I knew that my slang verbiage was not what it used to be, I looked at my sister and my friends and said, “What does that mean”? After they had a good laugh at my expense, they explained that it means lie. Being still confused, I proceeded to ask again, but what does that have to do with the place 🤦🏾‍♀️. I know, I know, my friends kindly showed me mercy, AFTER LAUGHING YET AGIAN and proceed to explain to me, it means the food isn’t as good ad they say

“Well, we ain’t leaving, I’m hungry,” lol! I ended up ordering a Freaky Tiki Burger with fries! And I don’t know what cap those young men had on that day, but my burger was BUSSIN’. Do the kids still say that? All in all, it was a fun trip with friends and most certainly needed. So if you are just looking for something to do to kill some time, check out Candytopia, but you have been warned, don’t go with expectations!

As always, thank you ALL for allowing me to share my passions and experiences with you! I hope that my blog inspires you to go after what you want and believe in yourself, because I believe in you! Now strike your POWER POSE- We got this, LET’S GET TO IT!!

Keep Shining Loves
