Black HerStory Month Day 4

IT’S DAYYY FOURRR!!!!!!! Today’s Queen is THE very FIRST, not only is she the FIRST woman! She is the FIRST BLACK WOMAN! Two history making moments!!!  NOW, The Vice President of the United States, did ya’ll hear me, I said SHE is the Vice President of the United States!!! None other than QUEEN Kamala Harris herself!!

"There will be people who say to you, 'You are out of your lane, they are burdened by only having the capacity to see what has always been instead of what can be. But don't you let that burden you."- Kamala Harris

Humble Beginnings: Madam Vice President Kamala Harris was born October 20th, 1964 (Ya’ll MY Vice President is a LIBRAAAAAAAAAAA), in Oakland California! Her mother, Shyamala Gopalan, born to a diplomat and a women's rights activist, was a breast cancer researcher at UC Berkeley, The University of Illinois, and the University of Wisconsin. Ms. Gopalan later became a part of the Special Commission on Breast Cancer. Kamala’s father, Donald Harris, was born in Jamaica. He later came to the US to purse his doctorate degree and later became a citizen. During his time at UC Berkeley, he met Shyamala (Kamala’s mother). Queen Kamala has one younger sister, Mya. They have a fantastic relationship! Mya was quoted saying “Growing up, heaven help the poor kid who picked on me because my sister would be there in a flash to have my back," Now that is amazing!!! As a young child, Kamala attended Thousand Oaks Elementary School. When she was 12 her family moved to Canada, where her and Mya attended the Notre-Dame-Des-Neiges School. After primary school, Kamala attended and graduated from, Westmount High School in 1981.

Early Career: After receiving her Bachelor of Arts from Howard University she went on to receive her Juris Doctor from Hastings College of Law in San Francisco! She’s educated too!! Up until now, we have had some impressive Women of Color, and Mrs. Harris is no exception!! She holds many firsts, check it out! She is the first Black woman to be elected District Attorney in California, California’s first black woman Attorney General, the first Indian American senator, and NOW, as we all know, THE FIRST Black woman Vice President!!!! She, like all the other magnificent Queen we have met, hit the ground running! From becoming Deputy District Attorney in Alameda County CA in 1990, a post she held for eight years, to then becoming Assistant District Attorney of San Francisco and rocking that title for five years. She later decided she wanted to show that #BlackGirlMagic a little more, and went on to become the San Francisco District Attorney, GIRRLLLLLL YOU BETTA!! After that, this Queen said, why stop here, and became Attorney General of California! I ain’t mad at ya! Do the dang thang!!

"Anyone who claims to be a leader must speak like a leader. That means speaking with integrity and truth”-Kamala Harris

Today: Just prior to running for office, in 2017 Kamala was sworn in as a United States Senator for California, the second African American woman and first South Asian-American senator in history!! MORE FIRSTS!! She served on the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, the Select Committee on Intelligence, the Committee on the Judiciary, and the Committee on the Budget. When Kamala was sworn in her mission was to fight for the rights of all communities in California! I can’t speak for her, but I am sure, the fierceness in which she made that statement has not changed! She is now the VP of the USA! And, although It hasn’t been long since officially becoming the Vice President, she hasn’t lost a bit of fight and I hope that she will keep that same energy when fighting for the nation! She is breaking down barriers, destroying stereotypes, and letting the world know that she is a STRONG BLACK WOMAN!! If that isn’t determination, I don’t know what is!

“My mother had a saying: 'Kamala, you may be the first to do many things, but make sure you're not the last.”-Kamala Harris

Thank you, Kamala D. Harris for showing us that women of color can do what they want! They can show up and show out, just as well as anyone!!

“Let’s speak the truth: People are protesting because Black people have been treated as less than human in America. Because our country has never fully addressed the systemic racism that has plagued our country since its earliest days. It is the duty of every American to fix. No longer can some wait on the sidelines, hoping for incremental change. In times like this, silence is complicity,”-Kamala Harris

As always, thank you ALL for allowing me to share my passions with you and I hope that my blog inspires you to go after what you want and believe in yourself in every aspect, because I believe in you! Now strike your POWER POSE 🕺💃- We got this, NOW LET’S GET TO IT!!!
