Black HerStory Month Day 1
Happy Black History Month!! This month I want to do something a little different, every other day for the month of February I want to shine a spotlight on a different Black Woman Making Moves. Now, WHY black WOMEN you ask? Because, Although we are making MAJOR MOVES and strides in the areas of entrepreneurship and BOSS LADY status black women, for centuries were the bottom of the totem pole, they were viewed as less than, unworthy, and useless. So over the next month I want you to know, little black girl that you ARE NOT useless, you ARE worthy, you are NOT less than, and you can do WHATEVER you want! Your ONLY limitations is YOU!!
“I have learned not to allow rejection to move me”-Cicely Tyson.
The legendary epitome of #BlackExcellence. The portrait of strength. The courage of a nation. A beauty with grace and power that resonates! One whose legacy will not be forgotten. She whose impact and path I will not diminish by saying “omg she is gone”. With the life so full, and the memory of all! She was a star for the ages, a powerhouse-historian, and one that will live on through the work she has done! She set the stage for many, laid the foundation for all and Ms. Cicely Tyson, YOU , QUEEN, are THE GREATEST!! We won’t miss you, because you are EVERYWHERE! We won’t mourn because you live FOREVER, your reach is one that is far and wide, your gifts were those that souls could feel! We won’t shed tears, because you have not left us, all you have done is transition to higher. You have passed the touch you have paved the way, you have given us all the voice to say “I am Black and I am Bold, I am Beautiful and I am HERE. My precedence will not be ignored because I deserve my riches and ALL that is in store”
Born in East Harlem New York on December 19, 1924 Ms. Cicely Tyson is the daughter of Frederick Tyson, a homemaker and William Augustine Tyson, a carpenter and painter. Cicely was one of three children. Her parents were immigrants from the West Indies. She grew up singing in the choir and regularly attended prayer meetings at a church in East Harlem. Cicely’s career began when a photographer for Ebony magazine saw her and knew she was a gem! Her amazing presence placed Black women in a positive image! From Sounder, to The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman. She was a dynamic force of elegance!
